After Diwali here comes the another festival Chhath. It is one of the most fascinating festival mostly celebrated in Indian states of Bihar ,Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. This year it began from 17 nov and will last till 20st Nov.
This festival is dedicated to Sun ( Solar deity) to thank them for bestowing their blessings for giving bounties of life of earth and fulfilling their wishes and prayers. The devotees offers prayers to the Sun. .It is believed that the main sources of Sun’s powers are his wife Usha and Pratyusha.
The sunrise and sunset timings hold great significance during this four-day-long festival. The main day of the festival includes Chhath Pujan and Sandhya Arghya on Shashthi.
In the morning, worship of the first ray (Usha) of the Sun and the last ray (Pratyusha) of the Sun in the evening are offered to both of them. And the rituals are rigorous and are observed over a period of four days.

On the third day of Chhath puja, an arghya is offered to the sun god in the evening. Chhathi Maiya is worshiped from a soop (winnowing basket) filled with prasad( fruits, laddus, thekuas, etc.)After the worship of Sun God, Shashthi Devi songs are sung in the night and the vrat katha is heard.
Usha Arghya (Fourth Day)
On the final and the last day of Chhath puja, in the morning an arghya is being offered to the Sun God. Before sunrise, the devotees have to go to the riverbank as there is situation of pandemic so to stop gathering some devotees didnot went to riverbanks and prayed and offered an arghya from their home. I first heard about this festival from a friend, they go back to their home town for the festival. It was fascinating listening to her. It is interesting that so many festivals are celebrated in our country, a life time would not be enough to learn about them. Thank you for this post.
